Sketchbook Cover Design
Hello everyone! This is the cover that will be going on my sketchbook. The instructions were simply to design a cover that represents yourself and to include your best picture. My best picture, that I chose, is the flower tree in the top right corner. I was also given some questions to answer about it so here we go!
1. Why is this photo good (compositional standpoint)?
I think that this photo is good because it is bright, attention-grabbing, and the flowers are beautiful. With the sun in the corner, it uses the rule of thirds and also makes that the focal point of the photo. The tree branches all lead up to the bright blue sky and the sun.
2. Why do you value this photo?
I value this photo because it was one of the first pictures that I took that made me feel good about photography. I started to believe that I could actually take good pictures.
3. What is your theme? How did you showcase your identity?
The theme of my cover is outdoors and nature. I love being outside. To me, the outdoors represent freedom. When I am outside there is no yelling, no problems, just nature. I showcased my identity through those ideas because the outdoors are "my place."
4. How do the other images/text selected relate to your theme?
"Write your story" relates to my theme of freedom because I believe that everybody should write their story and be their own person. "Thank a farmer also relates to my overall theme of outdoors and freedom because, of course, most farming takes place outdoors, but also because farmers provide life. Everybody should thank a farmer; without them, life would not be possible. The animals and flowers also relate to the theme of nature.
5. Describe how you used the chosen principle of design.
Unity is shown in my cover design because all factors of the cover (photos and text) relate to freedom and nature.

My Best Photo!
What makes my photo a good photograph?
I think this is a good photograph because it catches your attention. I purposefully made it so that the flower would stand out as compared to the hands. I think it evokes an emotion when you look at and I think the lighting and background are okay, too.
Why did I choose it?
I chose this photo because I absolutely love how the flower stands out against my brothers hands, and overall, it makes me happy. I like to look at it because it is appealing to my senses.

What makes a "good" photograph?
Here is a list of a few things my group thought made a good photo:
-Lighting
-Background
-Angle
-Sparks an emotion
After looking at the work of some professional photographers and hearing their responses to this question....
I discovered that a lot of the photographers had the same thought that I did...and they were professionals! I believe that the most important part of a photograph is that it evokes an emotional response from the viewer. A lot of the photographers had the same opinion. The next most common response, from my point of view, was that lighting is the most important part of a photograph. It can be used to grab a viewers attention better than any other element.
